Chapter Award Descriptions
Ruth Weimer Mount Chapter Excellence Award
Exceptional chapters of Mortar Board will be considered to receive this award, the highest possible honor given in collegiate achievement. Recipients are chosen based on chapter operations, participation, selection, advising, visibility, communications and other qualifications. A chapter that receives this award is not eligible again until five years have passed since they last received the award.
Golden Torch Award
This mark of distinction is given to chapters meeting all the requirements for the Silver Torch Award and which excel beyond the minimum, exemplifying scholarship, leadership and service. A chapter must be nominated to receive this award. A chapter cannot receive both the Silver Torch Award and the Golden Torch Award simultaneously.
Silver Torch Award
This honor is awarded annually to outstanding chapters meeting chapter minimum standards, as outlined in the Bylaws.
Project Excellence Award
Chapters who have completed an outstanding event or project related to the national Reading is Leading initiative or as a part of Mortar Board Week, as well as in the area of scholarship, leadership development, fundraising, alumni involvement, or service can be considered for this award.
Most Improved Chapter Award
The purpose of the award is to encourage chapter development and to recognize a chapter that has achieved success during the year while re-establishing and re-invigorating programming and membership. For consideration to receive this award, a chapter may self-nominate or shall be nominated by their section coordinator. A nominee must document growth and achievement in the areas of new member selection, membership orientation and transition, chapter operations, service to the community and chapter visibility.
Web site Awards
The Mortar Board technology committee selects Web site awards each spring based on overall appearance, clarity and correctness of information, use of graphics and the quality of information. Up to three winners may be selected annually. The Web site Award was discontinued after the 2008 Mortar Board National Conference.
