Dear interested applicant: Hello! My name is Malav Patel and I am the 2012-2013 Selections Chair of Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society at UCLA. Below is the downloadable application for membership to the Agathai Chapter of Mortar Board for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Since 1939, Mortar Board at UCLA has been the premier national honor society on campus that recognizes college seniors for their exemplary scholarship, leadership, and service. With over a quarter of a million members having been initiated at 228 chartered chapters nationwide, our Society continues to provide opportunities for continued leadership development, to promote service to colleges and universities, and to encourage lifelong contributions to the global community. For more information about the national organization, please visit www.mortarboard.org. To learn more about the Agathai Chapter at UCLA, please continue to explore www.mortarboardatucla.org.
Candidates for Mortar Board membership at our UCLA chapter must have the following requirements:
- Attained Junior Standing (completion of at least 90 units) as of January 7, 2013
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above recommended
- Exemplary scholarship, leadership and service records
- Commitment to involvement in Mortar Board activities throughout the 2013-2014 academic year
How to submit your application
Please complete BOTH steps in order for your application to be considered complete:
Step 1: In a large manila envelope labeled "Mortar Board Application 2013-2014", please include the following:
- 1 copy of your application, which includes the Information Sheet and Essay Responses
- 1 copy of your Degree Progress Report (DPR)
- 1 letter of recommendation: Put your name, SID #, and “Mortar Board Recommendation” on the sealed envelope.
- Please put "Attn: Center for Student Programming, Pam Cysner" on the envelope as well
- Save and attach this application in an email
- "Subject" line: Mortar Board Application 2013-14
- Send to ucla@mortarboard.org
If possible, when considering an individual to write a recommendation letter, you should consider a candidate who is able to attest to your academic ability, personal qualities and achievement. Excellent referees include a current or previous professor, academic advisor, supervisor, or manager. Colleagues/equals from work should be avoided. Remember, Mortar Board is not going to tell you who to select as referees; this is your application and chance to put your best foot forward - choose wisely. Mortar Board does not accept letters of recommendation from family members, friends, neighbors, or similar sources.
Please submit the large manila envelope with the above enclosed materials to 105 Kerckhoff Hall by February 22nd at 5:00 pm. Please note that incomplete or late application packets will not be considered.
On behalf of the Agathai Chapter, I thank you for your interest in Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society. I hope you find this selections process straightforward. Should you need any additional information, however, I will be happy to address any questions that you may have about this selections process at ucla@mortarboard.org.
