P a r t i c i p a t i o n P o l i c y
Membership in this Chapter requires active involvement. In order for you to remain in good standing, you must meet the Chapter’s requirements (as outlined below) for participation. If the minimum requirements below are not completed, national and chapter membership will be revoked.
Meetings
Quarterly Minimum Requirement: Five (5) hours
Attendance at each general meeting is mandatory.
Community Service
Quarterly Minimum Requirement: Six (6) hours total
It is required to attend at least one (1) official Mortar Board Community Service event, which can total up to three (3) hours. The other hours may be fulfilled independently. The form can be found on the official Mortar Board website. If a member does attend an outside community service event in order to meet the requirement, they must submit the Volunteer Form (which can be found in the documents tab) to the Secretary.
Those who complete more than the minimum number of community service will be recognized.
Leadership
Quarterly Minimum Requirement: At least one (1) event.To make up a leadership event, you can complete three (3) hours of community service for each missing event.
Social
Quarterly Minimum Requirement: At least two (2) events. To make up a social event, you can complete three (3) hours of community service for each missing event.
Alumni Networking Nights
Quarterly Minimum Requirement: At least one (1) event
Retreat
Attendance at the retreat event, hosted in the Fall quarter, may count as up to three (3) hours or one (1) event in any category that still needs to be completed.
In addition to the participation policy, all members must:
●Fulfill the duties of their respective committee or position.
●Be involved in Mortar Board Week events.
●Participate in the selection of new members.
It is important to note that all Special Projects events are mandatory unless a valid excuse is sent to the Secretary at secretary.agathai@gmail.com.
**Volunteer Forms must be submitted by Friday of finals week.**
Jeopardy Status
Members who fail to meet the requirements for one quarter will be placed under academic review by the Executive Board. Those members who have been deemed to be actively participating but unintentionally falling short will be classified as having “jeopardy status.” This means that those requirements that are not completed in one quarter will be carried over to the subsequent quarter to be completed in addition to the new quarter’s requirements. Members who fail to complete both sets of requirement will be subject to dismissal.

- One (1) meeting will be excused with a valid reason with no penalty. The reason will be emailed 24 hours in advance to the Secretary (secretary.agathai@gmail.com ) . An official form must be turned in to the Secretary no later than 3 weeks after the excused absences.
- Three (3) unexcused absences or five (5) or more excused absences per quarter will jeopardize membership. Your continued membership within the Mortar Board organization will be reviewed by the Executive Board of the Agathai chapter.
